In the absence of love, any open arms will do. In the absence of vision, the lost wander. In the absence of hope, people despair. In the absence of courage, some let fear rule their lives.
“Getting It” is about finding what one loves most, and then prioritizing all of the things that matter. It’s about managing fear, doubt, and indecision in a way that overrides the impulses to pass up what matters most in favor of what one desires in the moment.
“Getting It” is what often happens too late in life if it happens at all. Perhaps ignorance is bliss, but failure is not. And after six decades of people watching, I began to notice similar traits among those who seem to have it together. I also noticed common traits among those who do not.
“Getting It” is my attempt to crystalize the differences into seven simple rules. We all frame reality from where we see the world. I’ve been blessed with a childhood filled with love, an education focused on science and engineering, a professional career in the music industry, and an entrepreneurial journey surrounded and guided by friends, mentors, and some of the most entertaining characters one could hope to meet.
I hope “Getting It” shines a light on some areas of your life that could benefit from attention, and that it inspires you to meet the challenges of life with enthusiasm, optimism, and a sense of certainty that you are right where you are for a reason. Most of all, I hope “Getting It” serves as a reminder that regardless of your economic status, your family and circle of friends, or the influence you may or may not wield, you carry within you the seeds of greatness. You are far more powerful, more beautiful, and more loved than you will ever realize, and you have the capacity to move mountains if you choose to do so.
